Our Students
Bridlewood Community Elementary School (BCES) has an enrollment of 337 students. Our diverse student population represents many countries and cultures.
When our students complete grade 6, they go to Glen Cairn P.S., and then on toA.Y. Jackson SS, Bell HS for the gifted program, or Canterbury HS for the arts program. In addition, some students may attend programs at Sir Guy Carleton SS.
Our Staff
BCES has 43 staff members: 28 teachers, 5 educational assistants, 3 early childhood educators, 3 custodians, 2 office administrators, 1 Library Technician, 1 Vice Principal and 1 Principal. Our staff members bring a rich variety of expertise and talents to our students. Staff members have a variety of backgrounds in music, art, physical education, science, drama, and computer education.
Staff members actively pursue professional development through attendance at networks, workshops, conferences and courses. Many staff members contribute to activities within the community on a personal level.
Primary and Junior teachers meet to create, support and review school initiatives. During these sessions, staff members are involved in professional learning, planning, and the organization of cross-graded learning activities. This collaborative effort allows us to better meet the needs of our students. Staff members offer a milk/juice program for students and coordinate environmental activities under the Board’s Earth Care initiative. Our entire staff works together as a team to create the most positive learning environment possible for our students.
Our Community
BCES is located in south Kanata. We serve the communities of Bridlewood,Emerald Meadows and Monahan's Landing. Adjacent to the school is a community rink, sports area and park. The City of Ottawa operates a variety of adult programs as well as an “After 3” program at the Bridlewood Community Centre which is part of our building. Every night of the week the school is busy with bookings for use by scouts, guides, gymnastics and adult sports groups.
Volunteers are welcome in the school. Last year dozens of parents participated in school activities: helping students with reading, organizing fund-raising events, accompanying students on field trips and working in the library. Parents and volunteers coordinate Pizza Days, Subway lunches and other special events.
The BCES School Council is an active and supportive volunteer group including parents/guardians, community representatives, and staff members dedicated to strengthening educational opportunities and partnerships with the community through cooperation and collaboration all to the benefit of our students.
The Children’s Village at Bridlewood is licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and operates in accordance to the Day Nursery’s Act. A kindergarten and school age program is offered to students in Bridlewood and the surrounding area. School-age children are provided with care before and after school.
