Leadership Recoginition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Bridlewood has many students who demonstrate leadership within the school. We have students who help supervise primary students at lunchtime as part of our Lunch Monitors Program. Junior students are paired with younger students to help improve literacy through Bridlewood’s Reading Buddies Program.. Fun days, spirit assemblies, and other special activities are planned by the teachers in collaboration with students in various clubs,. Our grade 6 students coordinate our Friday popcorn days. We also have a wonderful Remembrance Day assembly at the school which many parents attend. Our Free the Children and Me-to-We group organize a food drive at Christmas. Our students participate in a Terry Fox Run and Jump Rope for Heart during the school year and support local and world crisis situations: we have collected coins for United Way, Haiti and Japan and support the Send a Girl to School program. We acknowledge the fine work of our students in newsletters, assemblies and in conversations with groups and individuals.

Staff

Our staff members (both teaching and nonteaching) have a wealth of professional qualifications including Master’s Degrees, Bachelors in Arts, Sciences, as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, and Computers in Education. Bridlewood staff continually improves its qualifications so as to stay current with recent developments including workshops offered by the school board in areas of literacy, numeracy and professional learning communities. Bridlewood staff is involved in extracurricular activities for students; community initiatives including coaching and fundraising, and actively involved in Board-wide sports activities. Staff Leadership is recognized in school newsletters, principal reports to School Council, individual notes of thank you and recognition in our weekly memo, performance appraisals, etc..

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Parents, volunteers and community members generously contribute a lot of time to our school. School Council meets monthly and fundraisers for the school. School Council offers lunch programs including pizza and hotdog days. Parents and community members volunteer to read to children, work in the library, provide technology training, assist with field trips and organize special community events. To show our appreciation, Bridlewood organizes an appreciation day for the volunteers who dedicate their time to the students and staff of Bridlewood C.E.S. We truly appreciate the great work of our council and acknowledge their efforts through the newsletters and e-mails, synrevoice messages, personal thank you notes and in reports at school council meetings..

Community

Over the past few years, Bridlewood C.E.S. has been involved in partnerships with different associations and merchants. We thank the companies and businesses that have worked with us through these community partnerships. The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre offers an after school homework program for students at Bridlewood and the surrounding community.
